Personal Pizzas

Friday night has been pizza night in our family since I was a young teen. My mom took her trusty box of Chef Boyardee off the pantry shelf, mixed water with the ingredients and patted the dough onto a pizza pan.

Since those days, I have learned to make my own dough and sauce, and also come up with some creative personal pizza ideas.

Here are some good tips for making personal pizza:

You don’t have to use a traditional pizza crust to make pizza. In fact there are several bread choices that are ideal and delicious, especially for making personal pizzas.

French Bread can be sliced down the center. Slice each half in half again for individual servings. Place center side up on the baking sheet.

Tomato Bagels make a unique and tasty pizza crust. Slice in half and place center side up on a baking sheet.

Hoagie Rolls are a favorite, healthy choice especially when using wheat rolls. Slice in half and place center facing up on a baking sheet.

Brush the tops of the personal pizzas lightly with olive oil. Spoon on your choice of pizza sauce and add toppings such as ground beef or sausage, pepperoni, banana peppers, spinach, fresh tomato slices, bell pepper, mushrooms, onions, and shredded cheese.

Bake in the oven at 350° F. for approx. 10 minutes, until the cheese melts and the edges of the bread turns crispy.

Tips for preparing the toppings: Sauté pizza toppings such as onions, bell peppers and mushrooms together in a pan with olive oil to add flavor.

To make a cheeseburger pizza, brown ground beef with diced onions on the stovetop. Drain grease, add fried beef and onions to pizza and top with cheddar cheese. -

To make a gourmet Chicken Alfredo Pizza, top pizza dough with Alfredo sauce. Sauté garlic and onions with cooked, chopped chicken breast in olive oil until tender. Drain and add to pizza. Sprinkle on grated cheese and bake in the oven to melt cheese.
