Pick Strawberries for a Scrumptious Summer Treat
Strawberry season is in full swing. May and June are generally the best time of the year to get the tastiest strawberries. Right around the time schools close for the summer, community and church groups begin hosting strawberry festivals. These tasty fruits are so prevalent at this time of year, that the Algonquin Indian tribes even named June’s full moon for them. Why not celebrate the season with these tangy, refreshing strawberry smoothie recipes:Traditional Strawberry Smoothie
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups fresh strawberries
2 cups vanilla ice cream
2 cups crushed ice
2 tbsp. sugar
2 tbsp. lemon juice
Combine all ingredients in an electric blender. Blend until smooth and pour. Makes about four servings.
Non-Dairy/Sugar-Free Strawberry Smoothie
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups fresh strawberries
2 cups strawberry juice or soy milk
1 cup crushed ice
Combine all ingredients in an electric blender. Blend until slushy and pour. Makes 3-4 servings.
