Useful and Timely Tips from the Farmers' Almanac

chopping_onionApples turn lettuce brown and carrots bitter if stored together in the refrigerator.

Before cutting an onion, place it in the freezer for 15 minutes. This will help minimize the strength of the onion, and your tears.

Meatloaf placed on a slice of bacon while baking won’t stick to the pan.

A teaspoon of salt added to the water in which eggs are boiled makes them easier to shell.

When plastic wrap clings maddeningly to itself, pop it in the freezer for a minute. After a quick chill, it will be controllable again.

Warm chamomile teabags can reduce puffy eyes in just a few minutes.

Sprinkle dried chamomile blossoms onto carpets before vacuuming for a fresh, clean scent.

Peppermint tea is a good digestive aid.

Brooms and brushes last longer if hung when not in use. Once fibers and bristles are bent out of shape, these tools no longer function well.

Spring-loaded clothespins make great book markers. Clip them to the page where you stop reading.

For that mid-day energy lag, forget the coffee; exercise vigorously for three minutes to get the lift you need.
