Lemon Buttermilk Pound Cake

2 1/2 cups sugar

1/2 teaspoon soda

3 sticks oleo

3 1/2 cup all-purpose flour

4 eggs

2 teaspoons lemon extract

1 cup buttermilk

1 tablespoon hot water


Cream oleo and sugar; add eggs, one at a time, beating after each one. Add lemon extract and mix well. Mix soda in hot water (mix with creamed mixture or after last flour addition). Sift and measure flour; add creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk, beginning and ending with flour. bake greased tube pan for 1 hour and 30 minutes at 325 F.
