2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 cup flour
¾ cup granulated sugar
1 cup water
1 ½ envelopes unflavored gelatin
¼ teaspoon salt
2 cups confectioners' sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
¼ teaspoon vanilla
chocolate sprinkles or shredded coconut or chopped nuts or chopped Maraschino cherries.
Cream butter and brown sugar. Stir in flour. Press into greased 8 x 8 inch pan. Bake 15 minutes in 350 degree oven.
In sauce pan, combine sugar, water, gelatin and salt. Cook 10 minutes over moderate heat. Allow to cool. Add confectioners' sugar, baking powder and vanilla. On high speed, whip with electric beater until mixture is thick and fluffy. Pour into crust. Scatter a topping of your choice on top. Refrigerate at least 2 hours until firm.
After cutting, store covered in refrigerator. 16 bars.
Marshmallow Bars
