Before I retired from work and sailing, I patrolled the East Coast in boats 20, 26 and 30 feet -
but I never experienced anything like the valiant Howard Blackburn endured. God bless his memory, a true hero of the seas!

This is an amazing true story of courage and survival. I’m passionate about history and am the curator of a museum in MN so true historical stories really intrigue me. I can’t imagine the pain Blackburn endured, and yet he still got in a boat and set sailing records. The human spirit is remarkable! Most people in Blackburn’s shoes would have given up just as Welch did. I really enjoyed this story! Thanks so much.
