Does it Really Rain BLOOD?
Showers or rains of “blood” have sometimes been reported over Western Europe and the countries of the Mediterranean. In ancient times, red rain used to be regarded as an omen of impending war or disaster.
Today, we know that the red drops—usually large and somewhat muddy—are due to reddish sand particles caught up in Saharan sandstorms. This sand is carried by strong southerly winds up to the north, where it is then precipitated out of the clouds with rain.
