This week marks the anniversary of the date the North American record was set for the greatest amount of snow to fall during a single storm. Between Feb. 13 and 19, 1959, 189 inches of snow fell on the city of Mt. Shasta, California, in a storm system that gripped the area for five straight days. Here are some other interesting records for snowfall in North America:

Silver Lake, Colorado, holds the record for getting the most snow in 24 hours. The city received 76 inches during a 24-hour period that spanned April 14 and 15, 1921.

Tamarack, California, holds the record for receiving the most snow in a single month. In January of 1911, Tamarack was covered by 390 inches of snow!

And the record for the most snow over the course of one season goes to Mount Baker, Washington , which was pounded with 1,140 inches of snow during the winter of 1998 and 1999.
