Farmers’ Almanac TV
Over the weekend a crew form Farmers’ Almanac TV visited Maine. As you may know FATV can be viewed in 90% of the US households on Public Television Stations. For times in your community, go to www.farmersalmanac.com. and enter your zip code. The site will list stations and viewing times. This weekend was postcard perfect in Maine. While many parts of the country were being scorched with temps over 100 degrees, Maine was enjoying 70s/ days and 50s at night.
Some of the video we shot will be on our website soon or part of the 3rd TV Season in 2008. I have great respect for those behind the camera who make you look so good…. I narrated several one minute weather facts. Here is one that is common knowledge and the logic:
Lore/ saying
If sound travels far and wide, a stormy day will betide.
Reasoning
Have you ever noticed that before a rainstorm you can hear a train that’s miles away from your home? The dense cloud cover preceding a storm acts as a barrier and bounces acoustical waves back to earth. Thus our hearing seems to be sharper. It is something to consider when you are in a boat on a lake and “talking about your neighbors”. They might just hear your comments loud and clear.
Within the next few weeks I’ll discuss the 20 Signs of a Hard Winter. As we launch our winter forecast, we’ll have a countdown to the first snow and more. It is always interesting to see what the animals, insects and birds have to say about the upcoming winter season.
