Daylight Saving Time Question
In the 2007 edition of the Farmers’ Almanac we ran a story about the changing Daylight Saving Time schedule. I made mention of the results in the 2008 Editor’s Letter to what was proposed as an energy saving measure. DST stared in March and now ends the first Saturday of November. This year, it will end on November 4th. Here is a question from one reader.
We are interested in the results obtained from the survey of DST preferences. We cannot find any reference to the survey in the 2008 issue of the Almanac. Thank you. Raymond
Thanks for asking. We ran a survey online and through the mail. We asked about the new DST plan, our proposal and others. With approximately 10,000 voters the results were:
50% - Make DST year-round
26% - Liked the FA plan
15% - Liked the new start and end times 6% - Liked the old DST schedule 3% - Want to eliminate DST all together
This voting was all in anticipation of the new DST plan. We may run another quick survey once it is over in November and get another feel for it. I go onto greater detail in my letter in the 2008 edition.
Thanks for asking. We will run another survey after November 4th to get your reaction after the first time change.
