No Do-Overs! Rain ruined their wedding, then wrecked their renewal, too!
Sarah & John Nicholas - Chickasha, Oklahoma
I have to start out by saying that my husband and I have had not one, but two weddings ruined by rain. We had originally intended to marry on June 1, 2002, but I am in the Air Force, and in January of that year I received orders to report overseas in May of 2002. Because of this, we moved our wedding up to April 6, so the military could process our paperwork in time for my new husband to move with me.
Because there were heavy thunderstorms that day, my mom did not get to attend the ceremony. In the days preceding our wedding, my aunt had volunteered to drive my mom down for the wedding. But my aunt refused to drive mom the three hours to be at my wedding, because of the storms moving throughout the state that day, and there was no way to get her there on time! We had to proceed with the wedding without her. I can't imagine anything worse than not having your mom at your wedding because of some lousy weather.
Then, because I was frazzled over the weather and my mom not being able to make it, my fiancé's wedding band was misplaced. We had to borrow the photographer's ring to perform the ceremony, and it was way too small for my husband's fingers. (On a side note, June 1 our original date was a beautifully sunshiny day in Chickasha. Go figure!)
In 2005, we decided to renew our vows in Hawaii, and it rained all day there, too. The vow renewal was on the beach, so everyone was standing around under umbrellas. The pictures came out terrible because my hair was flat, the rain had washed my make-up off, and my acne showed. Even though we had picked the beach for its spectacular sunsets, there was no sunset that night, because it was too cloudy. If we couldn't even pull it off in Hawaii, I think we might be doomed! I guess we should have consulted the Farmers' Almanac! |
