Buttermilk Cheddar Biscuits

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon  salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2  cup butter
  • 1/2 cup  shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 425° F
  • In a bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cayenne.
  • Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Add the cheese and toss.
  • Stir in buttermilk until just moistened.
  • Place on a lightly floured surface and knead about 10 times.
  • Pat or roll until the dough is about 1” thick, and cut with a floured 2-1/2” biscuit cutter.
  • Place 1” apart on an ungreased baking sheet.
  • Bake at 425° F for about 15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Serve warm.
