Beef Brisket

Base Ingredients:
3—4 lbs. boneless beef brisket
1 bottle chili sauce
1 can Coke (not artificially sweetened)
1 packet dry onion soup mix
1/2 onion, chopped fine
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 bay leaf
1/2 bottle of beer
1 tbsp. prepared mustard
1 tsp. black pepper
1 tbsp. Dijon mustard
1 tbsp. lemon juice
2 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
2 tbsp. cider vinegar

Preheat oven to 300°F. Combine chili sauce, Coke, soup mix, and any extras. Place brisket in a foil-lined baking pan. Pour the sauce mixture over the brisket, cover with another sheet of foil and seal the edges. Bake for 3 to 4 hours, until tender. Carve the brisket against the grain, and serve the juices from the pan as a sauce.

If you notice a hole in the upper left-hand corner of your Farmers' Almanac, don't return it to the store! That hole isn't a defect; it's a part of history. Starting with the first edition of the Farmers' Almanac in 1818, readers used to nail holes into the corners to hang it up in their homes, barns, and outhouses (to provide both reading material and toilet paper). In 1919, the Almanac's publishers began pre-drilling holes in the corners to make it even easier for readers to keep all of that invaluable information (and paper) handy.
