Create Your Halloween Rooster O’Lantern!

Follow these easy directions to carve your Rooster O’Lantern for Halloween:

  • Open stencil PDF file, here, and print.
  • Place sheet over your pumpkin and secure with tape.
  • Using a small nail, hammer into the pumpkin following along the stencil design.
  • Remove stencil and carve the pumpkin along the nail holes you created.
  • Crow about it! Take a picture of your masterpiece and share it by 11/2/15 on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, tagged with #RoosterOLantern, and we’ll send you a 2016 edition of the Farmers’ Almanac! But be sure to tag your photo so we can find it!

I know what you said but a new cook may not.
On your baked pumkin seeds you said to place seeds on paper towel to dry and sprinkle with oil and salt then put on baking sheet.
( someone might take it to leave pumkin seeds on paper towel and bake).
Please remove paper towel before baking.

If you notice a hole in the upper left-hand corner of your Farmers' Almanac, don't return it to the store! That hole isn't a defect; it's a part of history. Starting with the first edition of the Farmers' Almanac in 1818, readers used to nail holes into the corners to hang it up in their homes, barns, and outhouses (to provide both reading material and toilet paper). In 1919, the Almanac's publishers began pre-drilling holes in the corners to make it even easier for readers to keep all of that invaluable information (and paper) handy.
