For many years the Farmers’ Almanac tagline has been TIMELESS – TRUSTED – TREASURED. Since 1818 — over two centuries of publication — we have documented life as it exists: from sharing tips of yesteryear (maintaining that new thing called the “motorcar” back in 1900), to timely advice of today (using your cell phone to remember where you parked), each edition is a snapshot of the American lifestyle.
It is logical to look back over the years to all that has happened, but a birthday is really about looking forward and dreaming of the future. On the occasion of our 200th birthday, we are compiling a time capsule that will be opened in 25 years. We will include items that represent life today so the next generation can either be amazed at how “primitive” 2017 was, or amazed at how “advanced” we were (are). Either way, it’s sure to reveal what a difference a quarter century makes in terms of how we connect with one another.
On September 18, 2017, we will add items and seal it up, not to be opened until September 18, 2042. We are looking for your suggestions about what should be included. What are the things we treasure today that will either appear to be timeless or antiquated?
Update! Watch the Facebook Live recording of the time capsule being filled and sealed:
