Chocolate Fondue

Chocolate Fondue

  • 1 ¼ cups whole milk or heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 6 ounces Ghirardelli or other brand 70% cacao extra bittersweet chocolate baking bar, broken or chopped into 1-inch pieces
  • 6 ounces Ghirardelli or other milk chocolate baking bar, broken or chopped into 1-inch pieces
  • 2 tablespoons chocolate liqueur (optional)

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the milk, vanilla, and butter.
  2. Heat over medium heat until the mixture just simmers.
  3. Remove from the heat and stir in the bittersweet and milk chocolates and chocolate liqueur until completely melted and smooth.
  4. Serve over a heat source that will keep the fondue warm, but not hot. This could be a crockpot-type pot or a traditional fondue pot.

For dippers: Try fresh fruit (strawberries, bananas, pears, kiwi), and cubed pieces of Angel Food cake.

If you notice a hole in the upper left-hand corner of your Farmers' Almanac, don't return it to the store! That hole isn't a defect; it's a part of history. Starting with the first edition of the Farmers' Almanac in 1818, readers used to nail holes into the corners to hang it up in their homes, barns, and outhouses (to provide both reading material and toilet paper). In 1919, the Almanac's publishers began pre-drilling holes in the corners to make it even easier for readers to keep all of that invaluable information (and paper) handy.
