Exploring Different Varieties of Honey

Here are some facts about honey that may delight you.

Honey, the pure natural sweetener prepared by bees through the collection of nectar from flowers, is a delectable treat bursting with unique flavors. These flavors are drawn from the various flowers involved in the honey-producing process, imbuing the honey with colors and tastes that are simply one-of-a-kind.

Honey can be used in diverse ways — as a sweetener of food, a beauty aid, a health booster, and a natural remedy.

It’s easy on the stomach, adapts to all cooking processes, and has an indefinite shelf-life.

There are over 300 unique flavors of honey in the U.S., including the following:

* Clover
* Basswood
* Buckwheat
* Avocado
* Heather
* Leatherwood
* Eucalyptus
* Pine Tree
* Tupelo
* Sourwood
* Blueberry
* Blacksage
* Sunflower

Flavors vary from very mild to strong and pungent. Colors range from dark brown to colorless. As a rule of thumb, light-colored honey is milder in taste and dark-colored honey is stronger.

Probably the clover, I buy raw honey local, but I have also bought a small jar of Manuka honey and it is very good too.

Heather

Manuka honey is also great for wound healing – they use it in hospitals!
