Hot Sausage Soup

Ingredients:
1 pound hot sausage
1 14 1/2-oz. can stewed tomatoes
1 8-oz. can tomato sauce
1 cup frozen mixed vegetables
3/4 cup sweet red pepper, julienned
1/4 cup onion, chopped
1/4 cup chicken broth
1 teaspoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon parsley, chopped
1/2 teaspoon oregano
Salt and pepper to taste

Directions:
In a large skillet, cook sausage over medium heat until browned. In a large saucepan, combine the remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer until vegetables are tender, about 10 minutes. Add sausage to soup.

  • If you notice a hole in the upper left-hand corner of your Farmers' Almanac, don't return it to the store! That hole isn't a defect; it's a part of history. Starting with the first edition of the Farmers' Almanac in 1818, readers used to nail holes into the corners to hang it up in their homes, barns, and outhouses (to provide both reading material and toilet paper). In 1919, the Almanac's publishers began pre-drilling holes in the corners to make it even easier for readers to keep all of that invaluable information (and paper) handy.
