Classic Quiche Lorraine For Bastille Day (July 14)

Bastille Day is July 14th. Serve up some traditional French food for Bastille Day. This classic is easy to make and delicious served hot or cold!

Be sure to use heavy cream and make no substitutions for best traditional flavor.

Classic Quiche Lorraine


8 slices bacon, cooked crispy and crumbled
1 ½ cups shredded Gruyère cheese, divided
1 shallot, minced
6 large eggs
1 ½ cups heavy cream
Pinch of cayenne
Pinch of nutmeg
Kosher salt
Freshly cracked black pepper

Crust: you can use a 9″ prepared single deep dish frozen pie shell (or make your own using your favorite recipe).


Preheat oven to 375ºF. Scatter cooked bacon in the unbaked pie crust. Add 1 cup of cheese and the shallot. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, cream, cayenne, and nutmeg. Season with salt and pepper. Pour the mixture over the bacon and cheese. Sprinkle with remaining 1/2 cup cheese.

Bake until crust is golden and eggs cooked through, about 40 minutes. Let cool 15 minutes before slicing and serving but it’s best at room temperature.

If you notice a hole in the upper left-hand corner of your Farmers' Almanac, don't return it to the store! That hole isn't a defect; it's a part of history. Starting with the first edition of the Farmers' Almanac in 1818, readers used to nail holes into the corners to hang it up in their homes, barns, and outhouses (to provide both reading material and toilet paper).
