Spiced Pecans

Spiced Pecans

Spiced nuts are a classic holiday snack and make a great hostess gift for your next holiday party. Feel free to experiment with your favorite nuts in this recipe.

Spiced Pecans

3 cups shelled pecan halves
1 egg white
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1 tablespoon water
1/2 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt

Beat egg white and water together with a fork. Add sugar and seasonings to egg mixture. Add nuts and coat on all sides.  Place nuts on foil-lined sheet to prevent sticking. Bake 1 hour at 250 degrees, turning once or twice. Be careful not to overcook!

Cool and serve.

If you notice a hole in the upper left-hand corner of your Farmers' Almanac, don't return it to the store! That hole isn't a defect; it's a part of history. Starting with the first edition of the Farmers' Almanac in 1818, readers used to nail holes into the corners to hang it up in their homes, barns, and outhouses (to provide both reading material and toilet paper). In 1919, the Almanac's publishers began pre-drilling holes in the corners to make it even easier for readers to keep all of that invaluable information (and paper) handy.
