Mercury and Venus Are Both Retrograde: What This Means for Your Zodiac Sign
Mercury retrograde gets blamed for everything from missed flights to regrettable text messages. But what happens when Venus, the planet astrologers associate with love, relationships, and money, is retrograde at the same time?
From October 24 through November 13, 2026, both planets will appear to move backward in the sky. According to astrology, Mercury retrograde is a time to rethink how we communicate and make decisions. Venus retrograde encourages a second look at our relationships, spending habits, and what makes us happy.
Put them together, and you might find yourself reconsidering everything from an old relationship to a big purchase, or finally having that conversation you’ve been putting off.
Here’s what astrologers traditionally associate with this double retrograde for each zodiac sign, along with some practical advice you can use.

What Does This Double Retrograde Mean for Your Zodiac Sign?
Find your zodiac sign below. If you know your rising sign, check that one too. Astrologers often use rising signs for more personalized readings. Don’t know yours? Our guide to rising signs explains how to find it.
Aries (March 21–April 19)
Your focus: Don’t let money become a relationship problem.
This retrograde puts money and close relationships under the spotlight, especially when the two are connected.
Maybe your partner has been spending more than you agreed on or a friend borrowed money months ago and still hasn’t mentioned paying it back. Perhaps you’ve been covering more than your fair share of the bills and hoping somebody will notice.
You might be tempted to ignore it until you’re really fed up. But the longer you avoid talking about money, the more likely it is to turn into an argument about something bigger.
Your move: Have the money conversation now. Figure out exactly what’s owed, what each person can afford, and what needs to change. You don’t have to make it confrontational, but you do need to be clear.
Taurus (April 20–May 20)
Your focus: Is your relationship as balanced as you think?
Venus is your ruling planet, so astrologers traditionally pay particular attention to its retrograde when interpreting your sign.
This time, the spotlight is on your closest relationships and all the little things that keep them going.
Maybe you’re always the one making plans, remembering birthdays, or handling household chores. Or perhaps someone close to you has been asking for more attention while you’ve been busy with everything else.
Little frustrations have a way of growing when nobody talks about them.
Your move: Think about one thing that would make an important relationship better. Then ask for it. Don’t expect someone to magically figure out what you need, and be prepared to hear what they need from you, too.
Gemini (May 21–June 20)
Your focus: Have you forgotten how to have fun?
Mercury is your ruling planet, and this retrograde draws attention to your everyday routine. Venus, meanwhile, brings romance, creativity, and the things you enjoy into the picture.
When was the last time you did something simply because you wanted to?
Maybe you’ve been staying late at work, saying yes to every favor, or putting off a hobby until life gets less busy. But somehow, life never seems to get less busy.
Your move: Look at your calendar and find something you can skip, shorten, or hand off. Use that time for something you’ve been missing, even if it’s just an afternoon with a friend or picking up an old hobby.
You don’t have to finish every chore before you’re allowed to enjoy yourself.
Cancer (June 21–July 22)
Your focus: Stop putting yourself last at home.
This retrograde draws attention to your home life and the things that bring you happiness.
You’re often the person making sure everybody else is comfortable. But who’s making sure you’re happy?
Maybe you’re the one who plans every family gathering, keeps track of everyone’s schedules, or takes care of the house while everybody else relaxes.
Or perhaps there’s something you’ve wanted to do for yourself, but it keeps getting pushed aside.
Your move: Ask for help with one responsibility you’ve been carrying alone. Then use the time you gain for something you actually enjoy. The people who love you can survive an evening without you managing everything.
Leo (July 23–August 22)
Your focus: Say what’s bothering you before you lose your temper.
Family and household matters may deserve a closer look during this retrograde, especially when communication has been less than wonderful.
Maybe someone keeps leaving a mess for you to clean up. Perhaps a family member makes plans without checking with you first. Or you’ve been quietly irritated by something that happens over and over again.
You might think you’ve made your feelings obvious. Unfortunately, sighing loudly while loading the dishwasher doesn’t always get the message across.
Your move: Speak up before a small annoyance becomes a big argument. Explain what bothers you and what you’d like to change. And give the other person a chance to explain their side. You might be dealing with different expectations rather than deliberate disrespect.
Virgo (August 23–September 22)
Your focus: Stop taking responsibility for everyone else’s problems.
Mercury is your ruling planet, and this retrograde brings communication, responsibilities, and money into focus.
You’re probably the person people turn to when something needs fixing, organizing, or figuring out.
That’s a compliment, until you realize you’re doing your job, helping someone else with theirs, and still getting asked to take on more.
Perhaps you’ve been picking up extra responsibilities at work without additional pay. Or you’ve become the unofficial family problem-solver, even when you’re exhausted.
Your move: The next time someone hands you a problem, ask yourself whether it’s actually yours to solve. If you’re doing extra work, discuss what you’re being paid or what responsibilities can come off your plate. You can be helpful without being available for everything.
Libra (September 23–October 22)
Your focus: You don’t have to make everybody happy.
Venus is your ruling planet, and it moves back into your sign on October 25. In astrology, that makes this a particularly good time to look at your relationships and the compromises you’ve been making.
Do you agree to dinner plans when you’d rather stay home? Spend more than you intended because everyone else wants to go somewhere expensive? Rearrange your schedule for people who rarely do the same for you?
Keeping the peace is nice, but not when you’re always the one making sacrifices.
Your move: Practice saying what you actually want, even when it’s different from what everyone else wants. Start small. Pick the restaurant. Decline an invitation. Say you’d rather not spend that much money. People who care about you should be able to handle an occasional no.
Scorpio (October 23–November 21)
Your focus: Stop expecting people to read your mind.
Mercury spends this entire retrograde in your sign, making communication especially important in your traditional horoscope. Venus adds another reason to look at old relationship problems you’ve never quite settled.
You might be excellent at picking up on what other people aren’t saying. Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean they’re equally good at figuring you out.
Maybe you’re still irritated about something that happened months ago. Perhaps you’ve been pulling away from someone without explaining why, secretly hoping they’ll notice and ask what’s wrong.
Here’s the problem: When you expect someone to figure out why you’re upset, you’re giving them a test they don’t know they’re taking.
Your move: Tell someone what’s bothering you without making them guess. You might discover that the conversation is much easier than the weeks you’ve spent avoiding it.
Sagittarius (November 22–December 21)
Your focus: Deal with what you’ve been avoiding.
This retrograde encourages you to pay attention to things you’ve been pushing aside, especially when friendships are involved.
Maybe there’s a friend you haven’t spoken to since an awkward disagreement. Perhaps you keep agreeing to plans you don’t enjoy. Or you’ve been so busy with work, social events, and everything else that you haven’t had a moment to think about what’s really bothering you.
Keeping busy can be a great distraction. It doesn’t necessarily make a problem disappear.
Your move: Think about one friendship or situation that hasn’t felt right lately. Do you need to have a conversation, set a boundary, or accept that a relationship has changed? You don’t have to fix everything. Just stop pretending something isn’t bothering you when it clearly is.
Capricorn (December 22–January 19)
Your focus: Are you working toward something you still want?
Capricorn, this retrograde brings career plans, friendships, and long-term goals into focus.
You’re good at setting a goal and working toward it. But what happens when you’ve been chasing something for so long that you haven’t stopped to ask whether you still want it?
Maybe you’re working toward a promotion that would mean longer hours and less time with your family. Perhaps you’ve been sticking with a career plan you made years ago, even though your priorities have changed.
Your move: Pick one big goal and think about what your everyday life would actually look like if you achieved it. Would you be happier? Have more freedom? Feel less stressed? Or would you simply have a more impressive job title? It’s okay to change your plans when what matters to you changes.
Aquarius (January 20–February 18)
Your focus: Give an old idea another chance.
Aquarius, this retrograde brings career decisions and future plans back up for review.
Maybe you once considered changing jobs but talked yourself out of it. Perhaps you’ve wanted to take a class, travel somewhere new, or try a completely different line of work.
At the time, it might not have made sense. But circumstances change, and so do you.
There’s also a chance you’ve been sticking with a decision simply because you made it a long time ago and don’t want to admit it might have been wrong.
Your move: Revisit one opportunity you’ve put aside. Find out what it would actually take to make it happen. Look into the costs, requirements, and possibilities before ruling it out again. You don’t have to make a big change right now. But you may discover you have more options than you thought.
Pisces (February 19–March 20)
Your focus: Being kind doesn’t mean saying yes to everything.
Pisces, this retrograde highlights close relationships, money, and the commitments you make to other people.
You’re often willing to help when someone is going through a tough time. But what happens when that help starts costing you more than you can afford?
Maybe you’ve lent money to someone who hasn’t made any effort to pay you back. Perhaps a friend calls every time there’s a crisis but disappears when you need support.
Or you’ve agreed to something because you felt bad saying no.
Your move: Think about one situation where you’ve been giving more than you’re comfortable with. Decide what you can reasonably offer, and be clear about it. If someone asks for money you can’t afford to lose, it’s okay to refuse. You can care about someone without taking responsibility for fixing their life.
Should You Avoid Big Decisions Until November 13?
In traditional astrology, Mercury and Venus retrogrades are considered good times to revisit old decisions and think carefully before making major commitments.
Mercury is associated with communication, contracts, and planning. Venus is connected to relationships, money, and the things we value.
But that doesn’t mean you need to put your life on hold.
If an ex gets in touch, remember why the relationship ended before deciding whether to reconnect. If you’re making an expensive purchase, check the details. And if you’ve been avoiding an important conversation, don’t use Mercury retrograde as another excuse to put it off.

Both planets return to direct motion on November 13 in Eastern Time.
What Does Retrograde Actually Mean?
And what does retrograde actually mean? Neither planet is physically moving backward around the Sun. It’s an effect of viewing their movements from Earth, rather like a slower car appearing to move backward when you pass it on the highway. The Planetary Society explains how retrograde motion works.
There’s no scientific evidence that planetary retrogrades cause problems with relationships, finances, or everyday life. Astrology is a longstanding tradition of interpreting those movements, rather than a scientifically proven way to predict events.
Still, if the next three weeks encourage you to clear up an old misunderstanding, reconsider a questionable purchase, or finally make time for something you love, that’s a pretty good use of a retrograde.
No need to blame the planets.
