Fishing Calendar – Is Today A Good Day To Fish?

The Farmers’ Almanac Fishing Calendar is based on the phase of the Moon, the zodiac sign the Moon is in, and previous experience. Local conditions, tides, and weather may affect your fishing success.

“Remember that your ears are just as important as your eyes. Listen for bugs, critters, breaking water, river cadence, approaching weather, and the tempo of your cast.”

Fishing Condition

This is the overall rating for the whole day, based upon our formula:

Best Good Fair Poor

Best Time

This column lists the best time of the day when, according to our formula, fish will be biting: MORNING or EVENING.

What do our ratings mean?

POOR – Fish may not touch your line or steal your bait.
FAIR – You may catch one or two fishes, but you will have to work hard to do so.
GOOD – You should catch enough fish to feel satisfied!
BEST – You may catch something almost every time you cast your line in the water.

Where to fish for bass in November? Close to the banks or further out? Also what’s the best bait. Minnows or worms or rubber worms.

Erin Puryear

Need fishing months for September, October, November and December (2025). Where can I find these?

Hi Erin, the 2025 print edition has the entire 2025 year’s worth of fishing dates (buy here on our shop link or amazon) but you can also become a member and get it online here – https://www.farmersalmanac.com/online-memberships

never had any luck with this calendar unfortunately

Donald Turner

Sometimes when the calender reads a good day to fish I automatically get the attitude I’m going to catch fish and that confidence allowed me to actually go and enjoy . Tight lines!

Farmers' Almanac

We love to hear it! Best wishes from all of us at Farmers’ Almanac. Post a picture of your last big catch!

Jon Fisher

Love this calendar

Heather

Thank you! We do too! It has provided many a successful day on the water for us!

Susie

In the farmers almanac says poor good best or fair in the evening or morning for fishing does that mean it is better or worse opposite of what they’re saying

Heather

Primarily it means that that timing has a strong tie to the formula, other times may be fair, etc, but that particular time is strongly aligned.

Melissa king

Do you think tomorrow would be a good day to bass fishing in farm ponds and what bait should I use in the ponds

Heather

We think any day is a good day to go fishing – if you are looking for a successful outing though – Sept 18 and 19 are good days to fish in the evening, September 24 and 25 are good days to fish in the morning, and Sept 26 and 27 are BEST DAYS to fish – preferably in the morning. I usually use spinnerbait in ponds and small lakes. Good luck!

Brittany Phillips

When it says poor in the evening for fishing does that mean that the morning time is poor too or could you have a good morning and a poor evening? Am I making sense lol?

Nora Morrow

I was wondering the same haha. Someone please help

Leland Negrete

I’m wondering the same thing!!

Dwayne

Poor fair good and best describes the day then if morning or evening is the better time of that poor, fair , good or best day

Elizabeth S
