Farmers’ Almanac Predicts a Classic Canadian Winter for 2025-26
Lewiston, ME: (August 11, 2025) Farmers’ Almanac Releases its 2025–26 Extended Winter Forecast for Canada, and suggests that this season will be a return to a classic Canadian winter full of deep freezes, heavy snow, and powerful storms from coast to coast.
Coldest Months Ahead
According to the Farmers’ Almanac’s time-tested prediction formula—refined over more than 200 years and factoring in everything from sunspots to lunar cycles, arctic air is expected to take a firm hold over the Prairie Provinces—Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba—as well as northern Quebec and Labrador for much of this winter.
Whiplash Weather for the South and West
Southern Ontario, southern Quebec, and coastal British Columbia can expect more ups and downs, with a mix of sharp cold snaps and occasional thaws. Southern coastal BC will see brief warming trends, especially in February and early March, but these will come hand-in-hand with heavy rain and gusty winds.
Snow, Storms, and Soakers
If snow is your thing, you’ll find plenty of it this year. According to the Almanac’s long-range outlook, Eastern Newfoundland, Labrador, and Quebec are in for a lot of snow, particularly in late January and February. Southern and eastern Ontario will be hit with frequent snowstorms and icy, lake-effect squalls, while the Prairies brace for whiteouts driven by Alberta Clippers. Interior BC’s higher elevations can expect heavy snows whenever Pacific storms roll through.
Rain will feel relentless on the West Coast but overall, the Farmers’ Almanac is calling for about average precipitation for British Columbia. Nova Scotia and PEI won’t be left out—expect frequent rain-snow mixes and the threat of coastal flooding during strong systems.
A Winter to Remember
The 2025–2026 winter forecast calls for dramatic contrasts and plenty of memorable moments—whether you’re shoveling out in Ontario, braving blizzards on the Prairies, or dodging rainstorms in BC. Canadians should prepare to stay bundled up and weather-aware as the country faces a true classic winter.
