Harvest Moon Partial Eclipse
September’s Harvest Moon will become full on September 17, 2024 at 10:34 p.m. Eastern time (7:34 p.m. Pacific). However it will become visible in the night sky by September 15 and last until September 19. Energetically, though, you may feel this powerful lunation one month before and one month after because it will also be a partial lunar eclipse!
A partial eclipse of the Moon is special because only a small fraction of the Moon enters Earth’s dark umbral shadow. During this time, you could notice the dark shading of the Moon growing, but only the faintest “bite” will be taken out of one edge.
Here are some important times to note: the partial eclipse begins on September 17 at 9:55 p.m. Eastern and the greatest eclipse will occur at 10:44 p.m. Eastern. From start to finish, the event will last 246 minutes, with the Moon in Earth’s dark shadow for the partial eclipse for only 64 minutes. See more viewing information for this eclipse.
2024 Harvest Moon Astrology
From August 22 to September 22 each year, the mighty Sun parades through the flower fields of Virgo. This means that the Full Moon each year at this time falls on the opposite polarity of Virgo, which is Pisces (represented by two fishes in the illustration below).
Pisces and Virgo rule the twelfth and the sixth houses, respectively. This axis holds ties to our health, such as physical and mental health, as well as our productivity versus our need for rest. This duality also aligns with work, activity, routines, and responsibilities.
It is also important to note that lunar eclipses are three times more powerful and emotional than regular full Moons. They mark destined or fated culminations, breakthroughs, or breakdowns. Memorable and profound moments occur near eclipses or during eclipse season—the month before and after an eclipse.
When it comes to further energy coloring this lunation, there are many factors at play. First to note, the lunar eclipse is conjunct Neptune, the planetary ruler of this lunation (Pisces). On one hand, this can create incredible sensitivity, intuition, creativity, and emotion. However, it can also just as easily leave you open to delusion, illusion, and fatigue.
Dreams may be hyper intense at this time. It is crucial to be aware of the stimuli and information you are receiving. You may feel prone to drift into fantasy or spin into paranoia or confusion. So don’t lose sight of reality. Connecting with art and spirituality could be especially useful.
Next, this lunar eclipse is exactly linked in a sextile to Uranus, which should bring many surprises, revelations, and fresh news our way. You may hunger for connection and step outside of the box as you open your perceptions.
After this, Jupiter comes into the mix, further encouraging you to be optimistic or to overindulge, which could leave you regretting impulsive decisions. Have fun, but don’t indulge too much—especially with your vices.
Mercury is opposite Saturn, which could bring heavy thoughts, while Venus is linked sweetly to Jupiter, promoting a desire for pleasure. However Venus is square Pluto, likely creating power struggles, possessiveness, or jealousy if we aren’t getting our needs met by others.
Last to note is that with the outer planets in a rare dance and Neptune linking nicely to Uranus and Pluto, we are in a period of growth and transformation if we seek to do so for the betterment of not only ourselves but for the people and world around us.
