Farmers’ Almanac Announces June’s Full Moon as the “White Buffalo Moon”
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Lewiston, ME – June 20, 2024: The Farmers’ Almanac, America’s leading provider of weather forecasts and traditional wisdom for over 200 years, is proud to announce a new name for June’s full Moon: The “White Buffalo Moon.”
This special designation comes in honor of the recent birth of a rare white bison calf at Yellowstone National Park. White bison hold significant cultural and spiritual meaning for many Native American tribes, particularly the Lakota people, who revere them as messengers of hope and renewal.
“The arrival of a white buffalo calf is a truly remarkable event,” says Sandi Duncan at Farmers’ Almanac. “By naming June’s full Moon the ‘White Buffalo Moon,’ we hope to celebrate this special creature and raise awareness of the Lakota tradition.” Learn about the Legend of the White Buffalo Calf Woman.
The full Moon, which will reach its peak illumination on June 21, 2024 at 9:08 p.m. EDT, is often associated with heightened emotions, increased energy levels, and a stronger connection to the natural world.
“The ‘White Buffalo Moon’ is a beautiful reminder of the interconnectedness of all living things,” says Duncan. “It’s a time to reflect on our own place in the natural world and to appreciate the beauty and wonder that surrounds us.”
