Re-purposing Shower Water

Put a bucket in the shower while you’re waiting for the water to warm up, and use that water for watering plants, flushing the toilet or cleaning.

Mix half a quart of 7-Up or Sprite with an equal quantity of water and 1/2 tsp. chlorine bleach to make cut flowers last longer.

For best flavor, do not wash the strawberries until you are ready to eat or use them.

Spray weeds with a mixture of 5 tablespoons of dishwashing liquid per quart of water.

Planting lavender in your strawberry bed will improve the crop.

Keep the colors growing all season by planting varieties that bloom at different times.

Seedlings don’t have to be as warm as germinating seeds. Move them away from radiators and turn off the heating mat as soon they have sprouted.

Chipped Christmas tree branches make a great garden mulch!

Before winter, mulch strawberries, roses, and other tender perennials with at least 2″ of straw or bark chips.

Plastic tubs from salad greens make excellent mini greenhouses for growing your own greens.
